Hey guys and gals! Meet our Member of the Month for August! Jacqueline Benavides Where Did You Grow Up? I grew up in the tiny city of Artesia, CA….near Cerritos, you know the commercial jingle? “Cerritos Auto Square…..” I now live in the beautiful Echo Park. First Ever Crossfit Class I was previously a member of the CrossFit SoCal Tribe (shout out!) located in Hawaiian Gardens, CA and my first WOD ever was there in the beginning of 2012. I think we did power cleans or shoulder presses and I couldn’t lift my arms for days after that! Favorite Food? Avocado! Being that I eat paleo and I am Mexican, it’s just a given. Favorite Type of Music? I love music! Listening to my favorite music and being knowledgeable about the artists and their stories just fills me with joy. I have a huge collection of vinyls and so I mostly listen to classic rock and soul. Artists such as Steely Dan, Linda Ronstadt, Marvin Gaye, Randy Cool, ELO and The Stylistics are among my favorites. What Would Be Your Perfect WOD? Something combining push press, sprints and burpees; yes, I don’t mind burpees. Other Than CF, How Do You Keep Fit? I take every opportunity to keep moving and maintain good nutrition. I love to walk rather than drive when running errands and such…it’s just a win-win situation. Also, I put a lot of effort and time into cooking my own meals and keeping it paleo and full of variety. Cooking recipes, even after my WOD, is super therapeutic for me. Worst/Nightmare WOD? ANYTHING consisting of box jumps! What Motivates You to Work on Your Fitness? I do this for myself and my future health. To give myself a chance to live the longest and most content life possible. I focus on doing my personal best so that I can be happy and energetic and seldom sick and tired. If You Were a Crossfit Themed Superhero What Would Your Name and Powers Be? I would be Lady Light and I would have the power to emit a radiant ball of light from my hand, to wave over others in order to cure their soreness

It is that time of year again. The comfort zone is just a place where dormant stale people live. Last year I personally witnessed more than a dozen PR's by doing nothing less than putting themselves out there and pushing through their comfort zone. Also this year, something new...a scaled division?? READ UP AND GET SIGNED UP! We will be doing each WOW on Friday (the day after it is released)! http://games.crossfit.com/article/whats-new-2015
The Open is coming! The Open is coming! Be prepared! And register for Team CF Durham! http://www.jtsstrength.com/articles/2015/01/26/7-principles-prepping-2015-crossfit-games-open/
PSA: Although we will "test" front and back squat this week, I do not expect big numbers, from anyone who has been consistent with training, due to the high intensity of CF Open metabolic work we have on the schedule. I.E. don't get frustrated if you don't PR on everything or anything, look at the big picture and have confidence in the squatting volume under our belts.
Good morning! Due to the weather and school delays/closings, we will delay our open gym time today and open at 10am instead of 9:30. Doors will open again at noon for open gym like we had planned. We will keep you posted throughout the day! Drive safe!

(If teams don't work out perfectly, this can work in teams of 3.) At the start of GO partner A will complete one clean and jerk, then partner B will complete one clean and jerk, then partner C will complete one clean and jerk, then partner D will complete one clean and jerk. Partner A will now complete 2 clean and jerks, partner B will complete 2 clean and jerks, partner C will complete 2 clean and jerks, and partner D will complete 2 clean and jerks. Partner A, B, C, and D will then complete 3 clean and jerks and so on until 10 minutes is up. Only one person can move at a time and you must go in the same order each time. The goal is to string reps together if possible and work on great positioning under fatigue. Choose a weight where you ca maintain great form throughout. Rest 2 minutes: After 10 minutes is up you will add 10 lbs for ladies and 15 lbs for men and start back at one rep each. This time you will complete squat clean and jerks in the same fashion for an additional 6 minutes.
